Products - Microarray Scanners - Colorimetric Scanners - Installation Guide
Follow this straightforward procedure to configure the SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner. The total installation time should be less than 30 minutes.
Short Protocol 1. Confirm receipt of all SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner components. 2. Confirm receipt of all SpotWare Computer components. 3. Configure the SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner. 4. Configure the SpotWareComputer. 5. Place a substrate slide into the scanner bay and begin scanning.
Complete Protocol 1. Confirm receipt of all SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner components. Confirm receipt of all SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner components immediately upon receipt using the SpotWare Shipping and Receiving Checklist provided with your order. The SpotWare Scanner components should include the following:
- SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner
- SpotWare Power Supply with Voltage-Appropriate Cable
- SpotWare USB High-Speed Data Communications Cable
- SpotWare 12-Position Substrate Slide Bay
- SpotWare USB Software Key
2. Confirm receipt of all SpotWare Computer components. Confirm receipt of all SpotWare Computer components immediately upon receipt using the SpotWare Shipping and Receiving Checklist provided with your order. The SpotWare Computer components should include the following:
- Computer with Pre-Installed SpotWare Controller and Image Acquisition Software
- Computer Keyboard
- Computer Mouse
- Computer Power Cord
3. Configure the SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner. Place the SpotWare Scanner on a laboratory bench, lift open the scanner lid, and insert the SpotWare 12-Position Substrate Slide Bay onto the scanning bed of the instrument. Insert the SpotWare USB High-Speed Data Communications Cable into the back of the instrument and connect the other end of the Cable to the SpotWare Computer. Insert the SpotWare Power Supply with Voltage-Appropriate Cable into the back of the instrument and and plug the Power Supply into an electrical outlet. Insert the SpotWare USB Software Key into the SpotWare Computer. A properly configure instrument is shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1. Shown is the connectivity panel of the SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner. Insert the SpotWare Power Supply with Voltage-Appropriate Cable (black cord) into the left port and the SpotWare USB High-Speed Data Communications Cable (white cord) into the right port. Insert the other end of the AC adapter into an electrical outlet and the other end of the USB cable into the computer (Figure 2). Make certain to move the gray transportation lock on the lower right side of the connectivity panel into the unlocked (rightward) position as shown.
4. Configure the SpotWareComputer. Place the the SpotWareComputer on a laboratory bench and connect the Computer to a suitable monitor (provided by customer). Insert the SpotWare USB Software Key into the back of the computer. Connect the Computer Keyboard and Mouse to the SpotWareComputer and insert the Computer Power Cord into the back of the Computer. Insert the other end of the Computer Power Cord into an electrical outlet and power on the SpotWareComputer. A properly configured SpotWareComputer is shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2. Shown is the SpotWare USB High-Speed Data Communications Cable (left) and the SpotWare USB Software Key (right) inserted into adjacent Computer USB ports. Both are required for SpotWare Scanner operation.
5. Place a substrate slide into the scanner bay and begin scanning. Launch the SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner software by double clicking on the desktop icon. Place a colorimetric microarray substrate slide into the upper left position (position #1) of the SpotWare 12-Position Substrate Slide Bay with the microarray spots facing down on the scanner bed. Any number of microarray substrate slides from 1 to 12 can be scanned using the 12-Position Substrate Slide Bay. Appropriate microarrays include white membrane substrate slides containing microarray spots developed with alkaline phosphatase, horseradish peroxidase and any other labeling system that produces colored spots. Glass and gel-coated microarray substrate slides containing colored spots included those developed with gold and silver labeling schemes are also detectable with the SpotWare Colorimetric Microarray Scanner. Adjust the scan resolution, gain, scan area and other parameters to obtain scanned data of outstanding quality. The 16-bit TIFF files obtained with the SpotWare Scanner can be quantified using any standard microarray data analysis package.
