Products - Microarray Instruments - Ozone and Dust Free Work Environment
The Ozone Free Box is intended to create an optimal working environment for microarrays that use fluorescent dyes shown to degrade in ozone levels above 5 parts per billion(ppb). All ambient air contains ozone: The level of ozone in the air can vary from 10 to more than 124 ppb, depending on environmental factors. Additionally, laboratory and other equipment such as laser printers and computers also generate ozone.
Figure 1. Innoscan 700, TrayMix 2 Hybridization Station and Microarray Centrifuge installed inside an ozone and dust free work enclosure. Ozone and cleanliness are maintained with the door open by an air curtain.
The system removes ozone and dust from the ambient air, to prevent the destruction of fluorescent dyes and keeps microarrays and equipment clean. Problems with specific dyes commonly used microarrays are reported by the following publications:

How it Works: The Ozone Free Box operates by using an air circulation loop which forces the air inside the modular enclosure through a highly efficient catalytic converter, converting ozone to oxygen. Dust and small particles are also removed by an additional hepa filter located at the entry of the centrifuge fan. The incorporation of the most powerful catalytic monolith technology guarantees an ozone level lower than 1 ppb with the door closed and 5 ppb with the door open. Under normal atmospheric and temperature conditions, the catalyst filter should last two years. Ozone is converted with an airflow of only 1.5 m/s.
Figure 2. From an ambient concentration of 23 ppb, ozone levels in the Ozone Free Box are reduced to lower than 1 ppb in less than 3 minutes. Moreover, even when the door of the Ozone Free Box is open, ozone levels generally do not exceed 5 ppb. An open door is necessary to allow end users to perform common microarray tasks such as processing and scanning microarrays.
The enclosure is provided as a set of sealed anodized aluminum profiles with PMMA panels that are fastened together to form a workspace adaptable to the desired dimensions for any laboratory environment. The entire front of the enclosure act as either vertical or horizontal doors which open and close very easily. Each enclosure we deliver is custom built to accommodate any size equipment, please advise us of your requirements and we will prepare a quotation (email; arrayit@arrayit.com ).
