Dr. Schena receives Oxford recognition

Sunnyvale, CA, April 10, 2003 – On April 8th Oxford University Press announced that “DNA Microarrays: A Practical Approach” edited by Dr. Mark Schena is the best selling book of the in-print titles of Oxford’s Practical Approach Series. Dr. Schena published “DNA Microarrays” in 1999, under the guidance of Dr. David Hames from the University of Leeds.

Oxford University Press (OUP) was founded in 1668 as a department in the University of Oxford, the oldest English-speaking University in the world. Teaching at Oxford dates back to the year 1096, and over the centuries the University has educated at the very highest level. Distinguished Oxford graduates include Lawrence of Arabia, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President Bill Clinton, Prime Minister Tony Blair, actor Hugh Grant, and physicist Stephen Hawking.

Dr. Schena had this to say about the Oxford announcement.  “David contacted me at a relatively early stage of the field, and I agreed to the editorship not knowing how successful the project would be. With over 200 titles in the Practical Approach series, it is surprising to have edited the best selling book, and I must say that the contributors deserve most of the credit for the success of DNA Microarrays. It is also a great honor to have a connection to Oxford Press and the University of Oxford, in light of all the distinguished graduates.”
